modeling sets and props

Been building my set for my village area for the past 2 weeks, along with the boat

The original idea hasn't changed so far, a village next to coast. some progress images. the green needs a lot of foliage trees, moss whatever very green. so matte paint or just duplicating a model tree, matte painting will be easier but the filming direction will make it unwise to do so.

Basically a wide shot of the most the most updated model. The colour is for layout purpose only. The small blocks of greys will the be the village

This is the Junk- that is what the actually name of the boat- trying to make it all in one without having to add on as many extra parts. But that causes problems like extra unneeded polygons, really complicated topography, just not needed so the construction of the Junk is boat base, support bars, the roof, a drivers slot and tires. I was originally trying to make the boat base, drivers section and support bars.

Just some shots of what it looks liked smoothed out so far.

Just done a really quick draft of the story board, just so I have something to actually present for the pitch in the morning. Will definitely review and redo the story board after the pitch in the morning.

  1. shot of the village
  2. short from alley point of view
  3. boy running by
  4. shot from top of stairs downwards
  5. boy runs down
  6. -||-
  7. shot from the bottom of the stairs from a distance
  8. boy runs towards camera
  9. camera turns as boy passes the camera showing the boat

10. boy runs towards boat
11. boy gets on
12. boy plays about
13. dozing off, sky turning dusk
14. sleeping, night time
15. camera pan around the boat
16. wave splashes boat
17. inside the boat
18.boy wakes up

19. Yawns as he head towards the front
20. Surprised by the view
21. Pan out of view
22. going under the bridge
23. view of a part of the city
24. looking at other areas
25. slowly heading towards the city
26. boats gets closer to land
27. he gets closer to land

The first half may not be used but personally I think the story wont hold as much of an impact without showing the fact that the boy lives in some awful village where its just dull greys, browns and trees, and as he runs to the boat hes really excited to actually get to the boat

UPDATE- the pitch could have went better but consider i woke up with a sore throat and only had a week to come up with the necessary stuff to worth pitching it was the best of what i could make it

the new project

Welcome to my 3rd year Animation project attempt 2 (http://j-d-vision-dumped.blogspot.com/ for previous entries) with only 3 days before the pitch

The new concept is about a boy from some village on a junk boat and how he stares into the high skyscrapers and how he admires and want to some day go to one, but also maybe how a business woman who always under pressure stares out of the window and wishes for the simple life"

But I'm thinking just the first part as he stares at the skyscrapers mesmerize by how tall and beautiful they are and as they get closer to land they just keep getting bigger, really emphasizing the scale

Research is coming along, the set will be based on the Hong Kong bridge that connects to the Kowloon peninsula. looked to junk boats, skyscraper designs and even Hong Kong traveling adverts, they really do capture the feel of Hong Kong if you see the right advert of course

So I'll need to make ;-
  • land
  • buildings/skyscrapers- Matte painting to save some time
  • bridges
  • junk boats
Will need to work out how water on Maya works

I'm going to to attempt to go with realistic as this is something I feel needs to be rather then trying to stylize it may change my mind later on
